Media Coverage LOUISIANA WOMAN (Baton Rouge, LA)

Even before we departed from Baton Rouge to begin our trip, the local media was picking up on the story of HUSON TRAVEL LETTERS:
Mother/daughter team to relive 'Huson Letters' tour of country
Most of us dream of trips around the country, but a 73-year-old Baton Rouge woman will be leaving in June for her second trip, this time with her daughter.
Malva Huson Brown of Baton Rouge, and her daughter, Juanita Huson Sylvest, are "The Traveling Husons," and they are financing their trip, in part, the same way Mrs. Brown and her husband, Roland Huson, did it back in 1946. They will write and mail personalized letters to children throughout the U.S., providing them with information about the culture, physical geography, history, sociology and ecology of the areas they visit.
"Each of the biweekly letters will contain a map of the area covered, so that children can follow us as we go," said Sylvest. Called "The Huson Travel Letters," the project is a remake of the same work/fun exploration done by the Huson family back in 1947.
Young journalists Roland and Malva Huson, with their two preschoolers, spent almost two years discovering America in a modified Ford complete with a typewriter, ditto machine and camping equipment. They shared their experiences via personal travel letters to children.
"The purpose of that first trip was to make our dream come true by writing personalized travel letters to children, who always love to receive mail of their very own," said Brown. This trip was spear-headed by Sylvest, who was four-years-old at the time of the first trip and has an extensive career in journalism and the tourist industry.
The Husons usually camped in their car, which had been modified for sleeping. However, Brown and Sylvest will be traveling in a recreational vehicle, and the ditto machine will be replaced by a computer.
The mother-daughter duo will leave out of Baton Rouge heading southeast, and will visit Hawaii and Alaska, which weren't states back in the 1940s. Both will share the writing chores.
The 18-month, 40 letter series of personalized letters is priced at $75. Letters will arrive every couple of weeks. Children will also receive a map on which they can, follow the Huson travels.
